we are at a loss as to what happened to one of our guys. They’re inside cats. He got full bloodwork in December so he didn’t have any long term diseases. (We do have a diabetic one)
Thursday he was totally fine
Friday he was acting a little weird, meowing and just acting odd. We took him to the emergency vet and they found normal vitals and a a hard poop ball and removed it. Otherwise seemed ok so we brought him home assuming the constipation was the issue. He had lost 3 lb since December which was odd.
Saturday he was walking funny, very stiff. We assumed it was from the anal probing. And he seemed to have quit eating. We missed the window to take him to our normal vet Saturday when they were open, short hours.
Sunday completely downhill. Just seems like a shell of himself. Hasn’t moved, peed on himself. We put him in the cat box and he just laid in it. Now, overnight into Monday he is Barely breathing and stiff like rigor Mortis or “paralyzed”
we’re taking him this morning to be put down and hoping to get some kind of idea of what the heck got ahold of him
Doc thinks his heart was throwing clots and causing neurological damage. Just in the half hour we were talking to the vet, he regressed even more. Upon arrival, he would show reflex if you pinched his toe. He lost that during the short time. He was stiff as a board.
Doc doesn’t think we would’ve made it to UGA to see a kitty neurologist in time, with the progression he would probably not have survived the hour
he also thinks the hard poop ball/ constipation was an early sign of neurological issues in the rear end which moved to the back legs and quickly forward
