I finally got my Boyds stock for my Howa 6.5 PRC barreled action in Friday and I have done some work on it. First of all before I could apply the finish I had to fit it. That took a few hours of grinding and sanding. The barreled action would not fit and free float the barrel so I had to widen the channel and grind a stud head down. After a lot of that I got the proper fit for the barrel. I still have to shimmy and shake it in there so it fits easily and without force. The front action screw was off center and the front pillar had to be opened up just a bit to get the treads to line up. I still have to put the front action screw in with the utmost care or it will cross thread easily.

On to the less critical stage. It's not a mandatory but it will be a nice look. Putting Tru Oil on is very quick process but takes a long time to do it right. It requires a tedious inspection over your last coat before you set it aside to cure. If not any spot you missed will show up and you can't just sand it out and correct it. You have to sand the whole stock down and start over. At least I haven't found a way to do it so it looks right. I have been putting on one coat of Tru Oil every six hours since yesterday morning. So I have roughly 6 to 7 coats on and I am not even half way done. I figure some time Wednesday or Friday will do it.

Here are a couple pics of it after fitting the action and one now. Please don't judge me too harshly. I just can't find the right light to take a real good pic. The stock is pretty much immovable when drying so a good angle to catch the sheen is difficult. When it's all finished I will try to get a few pics in some good light but I'm no photographer. Even when the gun is mobile I still can't seem to get good pics up in this place.

In order to get the proper picture, you have to take your shoes and socks off and have your feet in the picture
