Great deer round. Ammo sometimes hard to come by. 1/4 Bore nuts get all jiggly about itI don't think I had ever heard about it before this thread. What's so special about it?

It's just a 7x57 necked down to take a .257 bullet. At one point in time, surplus actions were a dime a dozen and the 257 made a lot of sense for a build, In many actions, they can be loaded to higher pressure and you'll see a +P designation. Because of the different parent cases and increased velocity, I'd guess the 25-06 took the wind out of its sails somewhat when it eventually came along. The 257 is flat-shooting, mild in recoil, and adequate for deer. You can't use a short action, need medium or long. Really, 257 Roberts is a great cartridge but there's no shortage of those. For someone who loads his own ammo, you wouldn't need anything else for hunting most game. And it's considered a classic. But, yeah, you could buy 270 or 30-06 ammo anywhere and it would be more practical. That's my understanding at least.I don't think I had ever heard about it before this thread. X2. I don't think it'd be a quick sale at that price but I think you could get that. Id be more inclined to say $850-$1k$1000
I have a standard grade Model 70 Featherweight in 257 Roberts. FN produced in SC. The extractor is not jeweled and the schnabel is not black. I wonder if this is one of the "high grade" featherweight models that came out in limited addition. With box and all, I wouldn't be surprised if it's closed to $1500. But I'm not sure.I just went into my local gun store and found a pristine condition (with original box) 2012 model Winchester Model 70 Fewtherweight chambered in 257 Roberts. It’s a beautiful gun and it caught my eye immediately. Has a beautifully jeweled bolt and the wood/metal are near perfect. It also has Leupold bases and rings that were installed on it when purchased new.
I’ve honestly never owned a Winchester rifle so I have no clue what this gun would be worth.
Looking for some help on this before I “pull the trigger!”
Well…. I bought it today! Threw a Leupold Vari-X III 3.5-10x50 on it and I’m shooting it tomorrow!
