You guys should check out the show on NETFLIX called LOCKUP I believe. There's a a guy in there from San Quintin that shows the guard how to make a shiv out of a partial roll of toilet paper lit for a heat source and then using plastic coffee cup lids he heats them and molds 4 or 5 melted together into a shiv that is very hard and comes to a point.

Like the inmate said "the guard is here for a few hours a day and prioners doing life/without have all the time in the world to think of this stuff.
