AI is retarded, but it is true that if you want to buy a handgun from a DEALER (FFL) in a state other than one you live in, you have to take possession through a dealer in your home state.

Long guns can be purchased directly from the out-of-state dealer and driven home with you immediately-- unless there's some other state or local law that interferes with that, but the feds don't have a law forbidding it.
