Project Glenfield Model 60

I have started on refinishing the exterior of my 1976 Glenfield Model 60. It belonged to my Late Cousin and was in rough shape when I got it. I've used it for a decade since and it has killed a ton of squirrels. Cycles most any ammo like a champ. Anyways, I started with the stock. The finish was gone and in dire need of TLC.
I sanded the old finish off and applied 4 coats of hand rubbed oil with light buffing with super fine steel wool between coats. I was amazed at how well it turned out.
Next is a re-blue and extensive cleaning of all parts.

It's Tung Oil.

nice job looks great . if you do the metal make sure it is warm when you apply the blue .

I pour boiling water on my parts, quick dry and then blue. Must be HOT to work well, even if it says "Cold" blue.

by doing it yourself you add more sentimental value . you obviously are not going to sell it . it will mean more to the nextt heir . make sense ?

Good point but not sure I'd want to experiment on this one.

That stock turned out very nice. I may have to do that to my old squirrel stock also. Hopefully, it has wood that nice under the brown finish.
