Protective Measures called me a "Traditionalist", so . . . (AK47 related)

I only have one AK now. I would love to have more but my wife and I have another baby on the way...so my gun buying is put on restriction for a little while. Mine is a Norinco 56-1. Your collection puts my one measly AK to shame. Nice!!
 
Ccw, as a fighting weapon, how would you compare the al's piston system to the ar's gas tube.. I've seen many melted gas tubes, not one bad piston problem. But, my only beef with aks is the idea of putting a flammable material over a gas tube that generates serious heat (wont hurt the gun, but damn sure will make you change shooting styles..

Where in the **** have you ever seen a melted gas tube?
