Bullcrap. Without an auto sear the disconnector will just cam over every three shots. Will still be a semi auto. Need an auto sear to trip the disconnector.

Federal law defines a machine gun to include conversion sets and full auto parts that would easily turn s semi-auto into a full auto or burst fire.
Whether a Tri-burst gear and 3-position selector switch gets you there (to an NFA violation, a federal felony) without also having the sear, I don't know. But it's a serious issue to consider.

Remember, ATF doesn't say that a gun has to work reliably and safely as a machine gun to be classified as such. If the gun slam-fired with the hammer following the bolt forward, it still counts, as dangerous as it may be.
