Question regarding installing a partition wall in a room with a tiled floor

I have a large 14 x 22 room. It is wall to wall ceramic tile and I want to split the room by adding a wall. Do you install the 2x4 floor footer directly on top of the tile or cut out a 3 1/2" gap in the tile where the 2x4 will then bolt to the cement slab?

I would float a 2x6 with 2x4s alternating to weave insulation between the 2x4s.

It seems to me that it depends a lot on the type of tiles. It they are a ceramic or stone tile then definitely remove then. I would say the same for any type of brittle old tile that would have a tendency to shatter if hammered on or having nails pounded into it

If not load bering and i assume it’s not you could go over it but you do run the risk of cracking tile. Also down the road if have to take up floor for any reason will be aggravating along new wall. The best is probably cut out floor for bottom plate

First. Don’t attempt to nail or screw through any type of tile. You can hammer drill them but ceramic is tough. Easier to remove

Interior wall with no load. Glue it.

Remove it. Everything from the point you remove it will be easier.

Dealing with a similar situation in our basement right now. Previous people framed over the old laminate tiles and now I’m going to be stuck dealing with it because we would prefer to polish the concrete or do an epoxy type floor.

Cut the tile and add a baseboard with quarter round to hide the imperfections.

Drill through the tile and sub floor and bolt and anchor the floor plate.

Cut the tile, do it right the first time. If you run the frame on top of the tile, you stand the chance of cracking the tile as the wall is built out (and gets heavier). I also agree with what THREEJAYS said about replacing the flooring at a later date.
