Question(s) for Military Personnel

Ok, I have question. Do incoming small arms rounds sound like firecrackers? I hope that is not a stupid question but that's kind of what they sound like to me on all the YouTube combat videos from the sand box that I have watched over the years and I always wondered about that.

Thank you all for your service! When I went to boot camp we got old M16A1s with welded firing pin holes. We were trained on nomenclature and handling of them. We shot .22 conversions at the indoor range towards the end of boot. When I got to battalion I was issued an M16A2E3. That is an A2 upper with full auto lower. I qualled in Haiti Expert. We shot once a year for qualls, Expert every time. I also qualled Marksman on the M9 (not a fan of that pistol). Was also an M60 team leader and qualled on that as well. I was a Seabee with NMCB 74. When I was Air Force I qualled on the M16A2 and the M9 again. I had to quall every 18 months on the pistol due to the fact I carried it daily. Let's show some respect to our Vets.....All gave some, some gave all.

It was a dick comment. Might as well tell him to Google it. He gave a forum for those service members to contribute and start a conversation.

Flame on.
I wouldn't normally comment here but you are correct, him being a longtime ODT member he would feel disrespected as well I'm sure. When I start a thread asking advice or opinions, it's because I want the opinion of other like minded individuals, not some recruiter's propaganda. BTW U.S. Army 94-99 and the second post is right on

I have the upmost respect for my brothers and sisters in arms, former and current. That being said, if any of them (myself included) are prepared to make a comment that could be considered a smart ass comment in an open forum we should be prepared to be called a Richard.

We have fought for the right of free speech so I really don't see a need for a one way apology here. Vet or no Vet there's no need to be rude to anyone. I've never asked for any extra consideration because of my service as I'm sure none of you have either.

ya, i would say thats probably the best way to describe it. you will also hear the bullet whizzing by you if they are close enough shots (good time to duck and cover if you hear that lol).

You grunts got all the toys... All I ever got was a Nuclear Weapon (C3 Poseidon missile). Even in bootcamp we only shot 22lr . Qualified with 1911's, and M1. Shot Tommy guns at clorox bottle in the Bermuda Triangle.
