Question(s) for Military Personnel

Was it just us bubbleheads that had these 1911's that if you shook them just right the thing would fall apart , with the slide hitting the ground. There was so much slop in those weapons I was afraid I'd get my hand blown off.

Nah, I had one of the "older" ones. Pulled the trigger and heard a weird snap. Broke it down and barrel was in 3 pieces. Frame held up no no worries lol

When i went to Parris Island in 93 ya was issued your rifle and mags pretty much the end of the first week i think and you kept the weapon with you pretty much 24/7 for the remainder of the 13 weeks. It was locked to the end of the Rack at night and certain
times of the day with a cable lock . At anytime we left and the rifles stayed there was a firewatch left to watch over them . We where only issued ammo on the days that we went to the range and then it was only the exact amount of that days training or qualifying

At the end of Boot that weapon was turned back in though . Then when ya was assigned to your unit you was assigned a diff weapon toe zero and take to the range . It was yours the whole time you was with that unit but it stayed in the armory until we went to the field or the range

Excuse me !!!! I served over 40 years ago!!!! How about you ?

Whats the 1st few words in my original post? And if you wasn't being a dick, then what did you mean by go ask a recruiter? I assumed you meant that I need to go enlist, where again I'll say "are they taking 40 year olds?. If you meant just go ask a recruiter, that's stupid as hell when I can just sit in my living room and pose an open question on a forum. Either way, I thought it came off as a dick reply.

Now, Tazz. You feel I owe this gentleman an apology just b/c he's a vet. That's kinda the attitude I see with a lot of vets. Yes, I know I owe my freedom to guys like him but if you think your military career somehow gives you the right to treat me like s..t, or that you are somehow better than me for serving, you can go to hell.

I think what Potenza was saying was go join up and find out first hand, not go ask a recruiter. He wasn't being a dick guys.

I agree. He wasn't trying to be a dick. Thanks to those of you who answered my question. And thanks for your service. You are all heroes.

I have the upmost respect for my brothers and sisters in arms, former and current. That being said, if any of them (myself included) are prepared to make a comment that could be considered a smart ass comment in an open forum we should be prepared to be called a Richard.

We have fought for the right of free speech so I really don't see a need for a one way apology here. Vet or no Vet there's no need to be rude to anyone. I've never asked for any extra consideration because of my service as I'm sure none of you have either.
The OP posed a fair question looking for a variety of answers from vets of all ages. As for me, M16A1 in week three of BT during Basic Rifle Marksmanship. No dummy M16 (that's ridiculous). I was an MP so we "qualified" with 1911A1 (Remington-Rand), M16A1, M203, Rem 870, and M60.

I graduated in 02 and we were still doing the same thing when I got out in 07. The army likes the lazy ass pop up ranges ran by computer. I hate it
