Been seeing some Rainbow Trout, about 12-14" long in the river by me that have 1/2-1/4 of their bodies in black. I looked up Whirling disease, but these fish act extremely healthy. The black lines are almost perfect (symmetrical in some cases), not blotchy or scattered around the fishes body.
Some have said when these fish are bred at the hatcheries, sometimes they bang their bodies/heads against the cages or equipment when transported and this damages the skin?
Any insight?
