Range Incident

Always clear the magazine
Leave the slide open,
unless you know any different all guns are loaded.
Always wear ear protection, eye protection and gloves if you like.
Guns when not in use go on the range mat, their clamshells or the range towel with action open.
Muzzle down range at all times even with action open.
Just a few things I try to do when at the range. I always keep a med kit in the car in case anyone has any accidents at the range I shoot at (south Winds). Safety keeps from being dead is what my dad told me and I believe him to this day. I accidentally swept him with the muzzle once and didnt shoot for a year because of that incident. Some people just need to be taught better.

I tried to take a piece of junk gun into a gun range (this was a long time ago ) and they said I could not shoot it in their range because it was a piece of junk. a good rule for a range, I think.

your telling me, I had traded a guy my treadmill for it, but back then I knew nothing about handguns, the guy at the range told me it was the first saturday night special and I should get my treadmill back.

Whew! Just got back from the local range... an interesting trip to say the least. Guy had a misfire and went to cycle the slide and the gun went off, and apparently he somehow had his hand in front of the muzzle, so it went into his left thumb and index finger. I was somewhat in shock seeing it, but I called 911 as the man wished and thankfully the range staff came out and helped him get his hand wrapped up until EMS arrived. I'm just glad the gun was pointed down range and not my way....

Collin, are you sure the bullet hit his hand? Or did the slide cut him when the gun went off? If he was wracking the slide from the rear, using this two fingers, the injury is understandable. On the other hand, it's hard to imagine how the bullet could hit those two fingers while trying to manually cycle the slide, even from the front of the slide.

That's not unique to the SKS. Lots of weapons out there with free floating firing pins. Gotta keep 'em clean.

It was indeed a very good reminder about gun safety. The guy did say he had problems with the gun jamming before when we were chatting. Do you think he would have a case against the manufacturer?

Too late. Lorcin is long gone. Done in by lawsuits. It was one of the "Ring of Fire" gun companies in California. Bryco, Jennings, Lorcin, Raven, Phoenix and some derivative companies.

Or change out the SKS' firing pin for a spring-loaded design like the one from Murray's. It supposedly cures the slamfire issue.

their reloads are bad about missfires. went there one day. a pissed off customer standing there whil thy tried to remove a 9mm bullet from the barrell of his glock. the round had no powder. hope the fella is ok.

I will agree about that.

I had a .303 round with total case seperation get lodged in the chamber of the Enfield I was shooting that day. It was a box of their reloads.
