Rant about contractors that don't show up. Must be millionaires that don't need work!

Lots of consumers suck as well, like when the contractor and consumer agree on price and everything, then they still shop around and call 2 days later(if they even call)and decide to change their mind? That’s why more contractors are requiring a deposit 👍🏻. Man agrees on a price and time he shouldn’t be shopping anymore. Dirty ****ers!

It took 2.5 years to find a GC here in Upson co to do a remodel. Guys would show up, walk around the house with a notebook writing dimensions down and listen to what we wanted. They would tell us they were going home to figure up the price and we would never hear back from them. I called three companies to get a quote on running a line to my barn so I could have a light out there. Two never showed and the one that did showed up three weeks later unannounced. Then proceeded to quote $5k for a single line ran 25 yards from the house to the barn and one light fixture with switch. I bought the line and assorted fixtures from Home Depot for $80 and a buddy did the whole job for $150. I just had to dig the ditch and bury the line. Finding people to work here is just as bad. They get in Facebook saying they can’t find work but don’t show up when called.

Fair? That's not fair to anyone besides the homeowner. A contractor can't live off having to put a lien on your house or property. Paying for materials when they get delivered is alright with me.
Did you read post #26, damn. Hell I'll post it for you here.

I will only hire for labor only, simply because of contractors that don't keep their word, I don't mind paying, but when a contractor screws you over and don't pay the material bill, then guess who gets a lien put on their house.

Yep...I would never put a dime in materials of my own money up front. A customer that does'nt want to pay for materials in advance and have them on site is not a customer i would want to work for. I have turned down way more work than i have done so if it was'nt a good fit i just declined.

I will pay for materials, but to where they came from, a sorry contractor will take the material money and spend it and if he does not pay the provider of said materials, then the homeowner is still responsible for them, because they delivered to said address and contractor did not paid for them with the money you gave the contractor. I know what I'm talking about. Can you understand now.

Yep I've been there and done that to. I had a written and signed contract with a contractor to build A 16x20 shed that included pouring the slab for it. In the contract it stated the contractor is responsible for paying for the concrete as part of the job. He signed the contract. Fast forward to concrete day and the truck driver from the local concrete company shows up and pours the truck full of cement on the ground and hands the contractor the bill. The contractor then comes to my wife and tried to hand her the bill to which she says "that's your responsibility" he then starts saying he doesn't have the money to pay for it. My wife called me and I headed home from work to deal with this. My wife politely asked the driver to wait out by the road my husband is coming home and just stay out of his way. I get home and walk right up to the contractor and ask him what the hell is going on. He starts running his mouth about not having the $1200 to pay for the concrete. He didn't have the money. The only reason that 68yr old man didn't get punched in his face was being old and having a pace maker. I ended up going straight to the local cement company and paying the owner directly or I would have had a lein placed against my home.

I was a sub contractor for 45 yrs and rarely supplied materials. Didn’t expect to get paid until the job was done. It motivates you to get the job done and satisfactory. The best part was the big smile on customers faces when they gladly paid up! There’s always been crooks in the construction business and sometimes it’s hard to tell. A good reputation goes along way!

It just shows that experience over the years has led you to where you are today. You know all these pitfalls and hard rocks to avoid from getting caught up in.
That is the same kind of person I want doing the work on my house, etc.
This along with honesty and determination are getting harder and harder to come across in just about any industry anymore (service related ones anyway) .
