Rant about contractors that don't show up. Must be millionaires that don't need work!

Understand? LOL... Why cant you agree on a material list and you purchase and pay 85 bucks for delivery to your project?? I have been contracting over 30 yrs...You don't get it... and goodbye because you are at the insult stage of your argument.
Young man I've dealt with more contractor more years than you've been alive. I don't have to pay for a delivery, all mine are free. I pay for my materials but not to an idiot of a contractor as you.

Each to their own and their own particular business model. Doesn’t mean I don’t find some of it distasteful and/or disgusting.
A lot of the slicker companies throw out these huge quotes, and then offer to help you get finance.
Digging through this type of bull**** to find someone to just pay to do the job has been driving me crazy trying to get roof done, driveway poured etc.

If you need a no BS roofer I have one. Brian put a new roof on my house in October 2023. He wasn't the cheapest or the most expensive, but he was the only one of 6 to follow through and return phone calls.

But, 'Murica, they can charge what they want, we can always select the low bidder.
You haven't been on some of the sites I've been on. Got death threats for pointing out the obvious and advertising for people with skills that aren't connected to major companies that can't leave their place of business for less than a grand.

The worst are homeowners that can't visualize what they want until it's built and then they decide they don't want that. And that's why I do commercial work only.
Years ago I was talking to a contractor on a large, high dollar home remodel. Said the folks couldn't visualize what they wanted in the kitchen. They'd had him build it out, then tear out, twice so far, with different appliances and arrangement.
I asked wasn't that driving him crazy, he said that with the premium they were paying him and his crew, he could stand it as long as they could.
More recently, a neighbor worked as contractor on a huge Buckhead home remodel, said the wife did the same thing, had the kitchen built out, looked at it, said "nope", tried new design. His crew had already been on that job over a year. Think that one took three years to complete.

Free market will decide what people are willing to pay. If the cost is too high they won't stay in business. Maybe you want government regulations on what can be charged for goods and services. IDK.

Man, I understand why the younger generations make fun of Boomers. Please just stop ranting you are an embarrassment to the Boomer generation.
Nice try, but it's quite the opposite. Wannabe "contractors" visit apps where people go looking for help they can afford. It is the wannabes that bring government into it. They protect their territory and dare anyone that isn't licensed, bonded, insured, checked out by Uncle Scam with a pee check, blood test, business license, criminal background check, credit check, National ID Card, proof of insurance, and certifications to do simple menial labor around your house. On one app I've been cursed, wished dead, threatened and harassed. And what you may ask?

I offered $100 for someone to come to my house and clean the gutters and then go in the basement and shovel some gravel that I carried in with five gallon buckets. I figured it would take 90 minutes. After about twenty replies and two dozen PMs, some kid came over and done the job in under half an hour and refused to take any money for the job.

I prefer to hire who I want to hire and if somebody screws a job up, it's my money, my house and my problem. But, really, most people in this country simply do NOT believe in a free market economy. It's time for more than a rant and if it's an embarrassment to call chicken ****s out like those on that app, then it's America's problem. Not mine.
