Dot 3 brake fluid or just paint stripper will remove the paint easily. Problem is the scope was probably painted to begin with so it will probably remove that paint too. I wouldn't paint a Nightforce scope, i would wrap it with some of that cheap camo wrap that they sell at Wal-mart, Cabelas, etc. It is basically like medical tape and only bonds to itself. I wrapped my whole 300 BLK SBR, scope, can, everyting for hunting season and when the season was over I pulled it right off.


You can obviously take more time and make it look better than I did, I didn't care what it looked like, I just wanted it to break up the outline of the rifle.

Removing the scope from the rifle is no big deal, so the next question is, how safe is it to Cerakote a scope. I've been told it's unsafe because of the heat, but then I see ones that have been Cerakoted. WTH?

Cerakote is also available in a version that doesn't require baking, though I would imagine it isn't as tough.

The tape thing is an option for the scope and probably a good one. However, I tried it on the barrel of a precision rifle and it does effect accuracy. Changes the harmonics.

Yeah, I have seen it done before. It doesn't look as clean, but it works.

Not sure about Cerakote but Duracoat can be cured that way. However it is not several day, its more like a month. You can touch the parts in about 6-8 hours and reassemble after 24 but for it to be fully cured takes at least 30 days.

Nothing wrong with a rattle can paint job. easier to touch up and or remove if need be.

It may be just as durable, but I don't know. It's one reason why it's probably a good idea to ask a business which version they're using.
