RBGC 2019 Run-and-Gun (5k/10k)

Not worth the effort or weight. Put the forend on the roof apex and push the rifle forward to magazine contact. Depending on roof size, tuck your legs under you or lay out across the roof.

If it’s built like a 3 gun nation roof platform then I like to put the mag on the opposite and pull back with the back of the mag on the front of the platform

Verified out to 600 yards today on 50% IPSC steel and the gun is still a laser.

We know I can do it from a rest...in light wind...with a low heart rate and rear support. In the heat of the moment unsupported, that's going to be a poke even if the target size is double. Especially if it's any amount of wind which I am not very experienced at judging.

Can you see your misses at 600 with 6x magnification?
I couldn't last year, it was pretty wet/muddy so no dust puffs. I'd say it's a maybe depending on conditions.

Edit:This was with a Vortex 1-6x Strike Eagle, better glass may make the difference.

Oh... If there was a dirt backdrop, maaaaybe. Personally I can't see a vapor trail all the way in at that distance with 6x if there was nothing behind it.

Spotting trace is very environmental conditions and light dependent, as well as requiring a fairly steady position.
If you get lost, don't be afraid to shoot below the target to get a wind call.

For those worried about the 600yd shots let's play a math game...
A full size IPSC is 18" wide, which at that distance is about .83 Mils or 2.8 MOA wide.

For my gun at 600 yards, if I held either edge that equates to 4.5 MPH in wind drift from one edge to the other. If I held center that would give me just over 2 mph of wind in either direction.

With this info, we can now start thinking smarter. If its a light wind and we think wind is from the left, hold left edge because if its less than 4.5 mph, you should get a hit assuming you make a clean shot. If its heavier, you could hold a half a target left and now your target should be in a 2.5-7 mph bracket. Hold off a full target and you would be bracketing for 4.5-9mph of wind. To be honest unless stuff is really moving we just don't see much more than that in the SE despite what it might feel like.

A strategy to think about is make a wind call and hold the edge of whatever direction you think its coming from. If you break a clean shot and miss I'd go to the half off target hold. If you don't see anything think about the opposite edge. The reasoning being if maybe your elevation is slightly off you could be impacting just behind the target with a high or low shot depending on terrain to target seperation, and should be able to pick up a high or low indication without the target in the way ..unless the wind is just really weird then you also are giving another wind guess instead of continuously hammering the same hold that might not work. If you really get lost hold low and try to catch a spot in dirt by the target hanger.
