Reasons for taking Social Security at 62.

Someone, a page or two back said that you could not draw two federal pensions. I am not so sure about that since I draw three of them (plus a VA disability). I retired from the Army when I was 45 and started drawing my retirement almost immediately. Went to work for the Post Office and retired from them when I was 62 and within a short period of time, I was drawing my PO retirement and Social Security. I also stated drawing a VA disability shortly after retiring from the Army, so the way I count, that is four (4) federal pensions.

I read on the SS website that i am eligible for my late wife's SS at the age of 60. I have to make an appointment for in person appointment with the SS Admin for next March. Does anybody have any input on spouse death benefits ? Thanks, RS
It was super easy for my mother-in-law. They did it over the phone and then she had to go for a visit and within a month she was receiving.

Spousal Benefits... The folks at SS are very helpful.

This is the sad truth. You have about 180,000,000 "workers" paying into the Social Security Scam...I mean "System."

There are over 68,400,000 "beneficiaries" of all types, and add 7,400,000 getting bennies from Social Security Supplemental Income and you can clearly see that the "system" is completely unsustainable as it exists today. Government keeps kicking the can down the road, taking some pressure off themselves by causing outrageous inflation, but in the end, major cuts to beneficiaries must happen. I suspect they'll means test this so if you were an ant while you worked, you'll be penalized heavily so the grasshoppers can continue to live happily ignorant of all responsibilities.
Yeah this. I'd rather sink on my own

SS is a scam, pure and simple. I would like to see our younger generation of workers opt out of it if possible since there is no chance in hell they will ever draw on a denuded fund. Biggest mistake in SS (besides starting it) was opening it up for disability claims; that should have been an entirely different fund instead of stealing "retirement".

opening it up for disability claims
If that were taken away from the "disabled workers" in Middle Georgia our entire economy would collapse. That "system" is so completely corrupt and rife with fraud that EBT and W.I.C. look like stealing a piece of bubble gum from the drug store.

The "retirement" portion has always been broken. It's nothing more than a Ponzi scheme. Which would be illegal if it wasn't done by those who define illegal.
There has never been a "fund" (Al Gore's "locked box"). Even if there were ever funds to put into the box, Congress has/would steal it for other uses.

I turned 63 in June. Im planning on taking SS in January of 26. My wife and I work for ourselves so I'll just pay myself the $23,400 earning limit and take the $2k in benefits without any penalty. The wife is waiting to 67.
