Red dots on pistols

I don't understand the question.

Like it or not, micro red dots on pistols is the way of the future.
Yes you are correct, for those who wont or cant, master iron sights on a pistol. Its a short cut in learning how to shoot a pistol well, however if and when they go down(things break...batteries etc..)If you havnt learned to master irons......well that is the fly in the ointment so to speak.I like them....even believe in them.....but only having mastered the irons first. No fighting instrument is complete without a good set of BUIS,and just like with the rifle, you had better know how to use them, and use them effectively

They have their place, but I don`t care for them. I will never buy one. I have a red dot on my crossbow( came on it) and I dont like it. Very accurate but terrible viz in low light. Gun-wise, I like old school.
Some of my same issues....dim views.....if Im using an optic....clarity and brightness of the glass is a must.

I dont understand what is there to master irons proper sight picture, proper focus on front sight, and proper space between all side when looking through the sights is it simple I could teach a child to do this, what matters is a good grip, and management of the trigger, If you dont have those basics down no matter how perfect your sight picture is your going to throw shots off i dont get this debate for mastering irons first

I disagree on needing to master iron before RDO same as telling some they need to master a manual transmission before going into a automatic transmission the two share similar concepts, get rounds on target one just happens to be so much easier, and effective
Not the same....Crap breaks....if you havnt mastered irons......well your holding a boat anchor.....but if you have, your still in the fight, albiet a little dimmer view.

The concept is simple true enough....however in practice not so much....your focus has to be at 3 places at once, jumping constantly from one to the other(with focus)......then trigger control etc. Then there is POA vs POI....etc.People spend years learning to master a pistols irons....some never do.However you are right in trigger management.....throw everything else away,if its not done correctly

Like i told another guy what is there to master on iron sights nothing get a good sight picture, good consistent presentation, what matter is grip, and trigger mastery sights are just an aid to a point of impact you want to hit i have videos of me shooting 100 yard 10×12 inch steel with irons, and a red dot quickly and accurately i will always point someone over to a red dot Irons. Irons are good to have but to say they need to be mastered first is just an absured opinion did you master your penmanship before you learned to type?

So...Does the man who can effectively put rounds on target with the same rate of fire and group as tightly with irons deserve more respect than the shooter who uses an optic to attain an equal finish? All being equal other than the added optic.... What are our members opinions on this subject?
I would say so...you gotta vote from me.Doesnt make me right or others wrong. Its just preference and what works for you.But have a plan B...then C etc.

So yours will never go down....break.....batteries...cracked glass....forget to turn on....loosen in mount....etc

Dont get it wrong i believe in being proficient with irons, and training with them, and having a great understanding of them thats not what Im arguing. I'm saying telling someome they shouldnt shoot red dots before they master irons is not good suggestion I started on irons about 9 years ago, and I'm extremely confident with them at any range, however if a new shooter wants to start out with a red dot to make it easier, and faster for them im all for it i have irons on all my carry guns, and my main one has Rmr and back up irons im all for both but they are two different things one compliments the other but if you get a quality RMR your chance of it failing get reduced by a lot same as on a rifle

And thats why I prefer a red sot over irons you only have to focus on your target superimpose that red dot on them and worry abot your trigger press no worrying about sight alignment or any of that cumbersome stuff
