Red dots on pistols

I have practiced taping-over the entire top of my pistol, covering both the front and rear sights, and shooting it by pointing the shape of the slide (or topstrap and barrel of a revolver) at the target. Got decent hits at 5 and 7 yards.

I have practiced shooting in complete darkness, at small glow-stick (size of cigarette butt) hanging in the air a few feet directly in front of a man-sized target (if you put the glow stick ON the target itself, it lights up the target and allows you to see at least the shape of your gun's sights). Got some hits a 5 yards, which is still within the distance that 95% of civilian self-defense shootings take place within.

And I've had the front sight FALL OFF, completely off, my 9mm compact carry pistol when I was shooting an official qualification course. I finished the last 1/3 of the course with the rear sight only, nothing to line it up with up front, shooting at 10, 7, and 3 yards. No problem. Passed with an excellent score.

I'm not so worried about not being able to shoot if my red dot optic were to suddenly fail and I didn't have back up iron sights.

1 you have specifically been training to shoot w/o BUIS... lots of time into it I’d imagine..

2 remember, you (shooter) is responsible for every projectile that exists your firearm. Meaning if your round hurts an unintended by-standard, the could be Manslaughter 1 or 2....

When I put sights on my firearms I add lock tight to the dovetail areas and the screw areas that secure the sights...

Lock tight is added insurance that sights are less likely to travel.

How to you use it if there is something wrong with RDS and no BUIS???? Please explain...

1. It won’t fail most likely
2. There are points of reference to use in conjunction with the window. Front of the pistol.
3. I shoot quite a bit and know where I am pointing. If the dot fails- and that is a HUGE if- I will not be able to make headshots at 25 yards fo sho. Risk vs reward- I am willing to take the risk it will not fail.
4. It won’t fail most likely

You can really get into the what if’s in this world.

Do you shoot red dots? What brand?
