Reloading supplies future

I am still using primers I purchased pre Obama. I miss some powders that have disappeared... trail boss being the most missed.
Over the last 10 years or so I have scaled down my shooting and baring SHTF I'll have ammo for the rest of my lifetime. I have casting equipment and pounds upon pounds of lead and molds for most of the popular cast rounds.
I've got a good stash of powder but still have to buy h4350 and varget when I see it, but the price per pound is insane and primers are even worse.
If I was thinking about becoming a new reloader today...... well, it's probably not worth it other than precision rifle or high volume competition shooting.

Experimental work on 300 BLK and possibly 38/357. Getting hold of commercial 38 Special wadcutter ammo can be a challenge sometimes.

But there's no money to be saved in the game now.

I am still loading rifle rounds single stage for my 6.5cm, 270 win, 223 bolt actions. I'm not aware of factory rounds for 270win throwing 110gr accubonds so I have to load my own, makes since in cases like that.
My dillon is on the bench doing nothing as it's main purpose is ar15 rounds and handgun. Considering time involved I can buy 9mm for less than I can load it for.... 223 FMJ training rounds the same... 45acp is still cheaper for me to load because I have plenty of brass and primers that were purchased in the $13 a thousand range.
I have my own range now, but when I do go to the public range there are no big volume shooters there.
Years ago when I went to the range ( especially indoor ) there were guys shooting hundreds of rounds in multiple guns.

On the bright side there is a new smokeless powder plant being built along the White River in Arkansas. It's the first such plant built in the US in over 50 years.

A new powder producer in the US sounds great.... I had not heard that news. I doubt it will do much do make our recognized powders any more available or cheaper, but any step towards making our country more self reliant is a good thing..... if the raw materials could be sourced from the US would be even better.

The thing is, are they going to produce the nitrocellulose themselves?

If no, there's still a potential supply chain issue. If yes, there's a host of EPA provisions to comply with.

Following some searching, I found an interesting thread on the topic of "IMR" 8208 XBR

yup. I have 16lb of the old, 11 of the new.

the old...IS AMAZE. no flash from an 11.5" AR. it meters well and is dirty-ish. I assume it has ALOT of flash suppressant in it.

the old is a pulldown powder...rumored to be from ammo we sent to Nicaragua in the late 70s if i member...

I use it for 77gr 5.56mm loads at near max. Used h322 load data and worked up.
