Remington 760 Gamemaster

Did you pick this up from Action Pawn in Tifton?

I am 99% sure I looked at this exact gun a few weeks back, and it was incredibly overpriced for the condition. Also, the scope bases do not match...the rear one is higher/taller than the front. The stocks have definitely been painted, and I am pretty sure the recoil pad isn't original.

I can't quite make out the barrel date codes, but based on the SN, I would guess late 50's/early 60's. You can likely call Remington, and they *should* be able to tell you a year (just give them the SN). Other than that, its just a plain old 760 GameMaster...in the most common chambering you could find in the rifles.

My father-in-law did, he was interested in the .30-06 parts of things, and thought it was a neat rifle. thankfully did not pay anywhere close to asking price on it. he's a killer negotiator.

I don't think that buttstock is in its original finish, and I don't think it had that eagle carving on it from the factory.

P.S. Could that butt stock have come off
of a Remington 870 wingmaster shotgun? These pump action firearms (870 and 760) had a lot in common and the furniture looks like it might be interchangeable, but I've never read that it is --not from from any reliable source.
The 870, 760 amd 1100 buttstocks are interchangeable but not identical. The stock for the 1100 has to be modified for the recoil spring tube. The semi auto rifles may be too, I don't know.

I needed a stock for an 870 and used a 760 stock I found in a bin somewhere for years.

Even the internal parts, triggers, hammers, etc. have a lot of commonality and the same parts no. when you look it up.
