Reptiles for beginners

If I ever do it again, I want a Rhino Iguana. The pet store owner had one named Roscoe that was 4'-5' w/o tha tail

Just saw that FL doesn't allow iguanas or tegus on display in public places.

The Jacksonville show is this weekend, even better!

I’m deployed and I FaceTimed my son yesterday and he was holding a baby snake he found. He was losing his mind. So I thought it would be cool to take him to a reptile expo and buy him one when I get back.

You're an awesome Dad! Thank you for your service Sir.

Actually, after living in Orlando 11 years, just keep a watch and catch a nice rat snake for him. Reds and beautiful and docile most of the time. Grays are more common but can be aggressive. Yellow rats (have strips) seem to be aggressive (at least the ones we caught). Leave the kings in the wild if you find one as they are snake eaters and FL needs all the help it can get in that department.

I have 3 kingsnakes, 1 Hognose, 3 leopard geckos, and a bearded dragon. I’d recommend a Kingsnake or corn snake for a beginner, and leopard gecko for lizard. Beardies are cool but they can be aggressive at first.

Definitely hit up Repticon, tons of vendors and selection to choose from. Avoid the companies Snakes at Sunset and Underground Reptiles.

Way to go dad! Your son will always remember that just like I remember my dad surprising me with a "little" 6 month old Belgium shepherd when I was 6. Little being 75lbs that grew up to be 110lbs. 58 years later I still remember that like it happened yesterday.
