Right side Head/Jaw/Tooth/Sinus Pain

If it was left jaw, neck or any chest pain pressure I would encourage you to get looked at from a cardiac perspective…

That is symptomatic for a deeper cardiac work up…

Way left field but I would want to rule that out… Any cardiac history or Paternal early cardiac history?
Good idea

Shingles?

Pain all on one side?

Had them 20 years ago, thought it was a bad tooth, but it hurt bad!
Hadnt thought of shingles. Man I hope not.

No history. Had a full stress test/heart exam with ultrasound a couple years ago. Said I was good to go. I guess things could change though.

Thats great to hear! If they stressed you any blockage would have showed up…

Curious as to why you had a cardiac workup 2 years ago? …

What precipitated that?

I'm really sorry you're going through this. Based on what you're describing — especially considering:

* You **never get headaches**, but now have a **severe one**
* Pain is **radiating into your cheek, jaw, and teeth** (right side)
* You **felt chilled** and couldn't get warm (even under blankets)
* The **dentist and urgent care doctor didn't find anything obvious**
* You were given an **antibiotic injection** just in case
* All of this **started suddenly and severely**

Here are some **possible explanations** to consider (not a diagnosis, but reasons to follow up **urgently** if this continues or worsens):

---

### 🔴 **1. Sinus Infection (Severe Sinusitis)**

* Your **maxillary sinuses** sit just above the upper teeth and cheeks.
* A **sinus infection** can cause **tooth pain, cheek and jaw pain**, and a headache.
* **Fever and chills** may occur with a more serious sinus infection.
* Sometimes, the infection doesn’t show clearly in the mouth or nose early on.
* The **antibiotic shot** would make sense if they suspected this.

---

### 🔴 **2. Trigeminal Neuralgia or Nerve Irritation**

* The **trigeminal nerve** controls feeling in your face.
* If it becomes irritated (even from inflammation or sinus pressure), it can cause **intense, shooting pain** in the cheek, jaw, teeth, and head.
* This pain can be **very severe and sudden**.
* Doesn’t always show up on basic physical exams.

---

### 🔴 **3. Dental Abscess or Hidden Infection**

* Not all infections are visible to the eye — sometimes a **deep abscess** or **infection under a tooth** won't show unless X-rays or imaging are done.
* These can cause **tooth, jaw, facial, and head pain**, and sometimes **fever/chills**.
* The antibiotic shot may help if this is the case, but you might still need a follow-up **dental X-ray or scan**.

---

### 🟡 **Other Less Common Possibilities**

* **Ear infection (otitis media or externa)** — especially if near the jaw joint.
* **Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) issue** — usually not this severe, but still possible.
* **Early shingles** (herpes zoster) — can cause **nerve pain** before the rash appears.
* **Meningitis** or **brain infection** — very unlikely without other signs, but **severe headache + chills** shouldn't be dismissed.

---

### What You Should Do:

* **Monitor your temperature** — if it rises, that could be a sign of infection brewing.
* If the pain **worsens, spreads**, or you develop **confusion, neck stiffness, vision issues, or vomiting**, go to the **ER** immediately.
* If symptoms **persist** beyond 24–48 hours after the antibiotic, consider asking for:

* **CT scan of the sinuses/head**
* **Dental imaging** (like panoramic X-ray)
* **Neurological evaluation**

---

Would you like help preparing specific questions to ask at a follow-up or ER visit? Or are you still experiencing the chills and pain now?

I am a big believer in Neilmed saline rinse. The bottle not the teapot. Follow instructions but lay down and let it creep into upper sinus cavity. Do it every couple of hours until this bout is over. Then do it morning and night.

you can have shingles with NO external rash, blisters. I did in 2015 and was miserable for a month.

I couldn't move, even picking up the TV remote off the table hurt, couldn't even ride in a car let alone drive. it was like I was wearing a barbed wire belt.

So in just the last 24 hrs my maxillary sinus’ have pretty much filled up. Pretty sure at this point it is a sinus infection that started on the right. I had a cold about a month ago and even after recovering from that, Ive had a persistent irritated feeling in my sinus’ when bending over. No symptoms other than that. No drainage. No stuffy nose. So now, 3-4 weeks after getting the cold, I got a sinus infection. Ive had several in the past but never weeks after a virus. Starting amoxicillan tomorrow. Bizarre…
