With a lot of respect of privacy to his family, friends and Veterans who knew him I have waiting months to post this. I knew Shawn personally for a few short years, we hunted together and talked shop about his Army and my Marine Corps service. Shawn I forgive you for shooting that Buck I spent 2 seasons chasing.
Saying Goodbye to a Warrior: Shawn Nelson
With a heavy heart, to us who knew him we mourn the sudden and tragic loss of our good friend, devoted husband, and true warrior, Shawn Nelson.
Cancer is a cruel thief, and it took Shawn from us far too quickly, having only been diagnosed a few short weeks before his sudden death. Though the end was swift, the love and respect we hold for him will last forever.
Shawn was a man defined by strength, character, and an incredible sense of loyalty. He proudly served our nation as an Army Ranger and an M60 Gunner, a veteran of the grueling Battle of Mogadishu. He was a quiet hero who valued his privacy, but his presence was a force.
I will miss his friendship, his humor, and the camaraderie he shared with all his fellow veterans. He taught me how to face adversity, a spirit perfectly captured in his own words:
“When the going gets tough, the tough go cyclic.”
RLTW!
Rest easy, Shawn. You will never be forgotten.
