Robin Williams died?

If you are in the depths of depression, you are overcome by the inability to rationalize. That's why I don't hold people with depression to the same standard. I have no idea what it would be like to be in that place, and I am in no position to pass judgment on anyone that is.

Yep. My gf was wondering why he would do this if he had so much money, fame, etc. I told her that I don't think any of that matters to one if they're at the point where they're ready to put a gun in their mouth or a noose around their neck or pills in their mouth. I can't imagine...

i would not know the pain a person with terminal bowel cancer is going through but im sure it is just awful

that being said life is precious and you only get one. the alternative is hardly better

humans are the only animals i can think of to willingly kill themselves. you can take a kitten, a gentle nice kitten and try and drown it or hurt it and it will fight to its last breath for life. people dont

the fun thing is we are supposed to be the only animals gifted with true reason. quite the conundrum

im not speaking ill of the dead here. i just dont find suicide acceptable

Some believe beached whales are suicidal.

I'm not the type that can 'give up' myself. Be it cancer, deep depression, etc., I think I'd feel the need to do everything possible to battle whatever ails me to the bitter end.
We all presumably like to believe that. Here's praying I never get that theory tested.

Unlike kittens, our brains are highly developed and nuanced. A cat focuses on eating, ****ting, ****ing and sleeping. Chemical imbalances in the human brain are much more complex. I feel nothing but compassion for someone that has chosen to take their life. To get to that point must have been truly terrible.

im not happy about folks who commit suicide. to be perfectly honest im more apathetic. i feel bad for them in the sense that what they were going through drove them to that point, but once someone makes the choice thats on them

to put things in perspective my father was the same age he was and he didnt have a choice in the matter. folks who throw away life, even if they are in pain, are wrong for it

To be fair, when you are at that point you are dealing with some serious chemical imbalances in the brain that a person battling cancer may not be experiencing. That's a different sort of hurdle to clear altogether, and one that isn't as visible as an amputated limb or malignant tumor. Dealing with health issues that affect the way you think, reason, and perceive reality are in an altogether different class. I really don't understand the comparison to someone who dies unwillingly....they are utterly unrelated.

there is no evidence to suggest that every person who is experiencing depression is doing so as a result of chemical imbalance

further not everyone who is depressed resorts to suicide

given the many grey areas there i once again retract to the simple generalized answer of "suicide is never acceptable"
