Ruger Announces SR-556 Takedown , What would the benefits be?

Thats pretty neat. I think they used the "takedown" as a marketing thing geared more toward the caliber change. You could throw a LAW Tactical folding block on that thing and it could make for a smaller package. http://www.lawtactical.com/ar_folding_stock_adapter_gen_3_p/2014003.htm
Ive seen people using the LAW folder and DOLOS removable barrel system to make takedown guns.

I was trying to figure this out too... the upper+handguard is almost as long as the assembled rifle, so taking it down only shaves a few inches.
Ruger has come out with some really off the wall stuff lately. I wonder if they hired someone from the Tauris 'build a few and see if they sell' marketing department.

Same suggested price Ruger lists for all of their SR-556's. Most of the SR-556's I see on Bud's are under $1500 though.
Doesn't every AR break down? Pull front and rear pins? Duh.
Yup, probably the same price as the 'normal' ones.
If they offered interchangeable barrels this might be kind of cool. Being able to switch from a 14" CQB rifle to a 20" distance gun with a quick barrel swap might actually be useful for folks who just want a single rifle to do everything.
