I agree with the probably want the money comment
I'd imagine it's for the people who want to trade you their Taurus G2C that's "worth" $500 while trying to convince you that your G43X with nights sights is "only" worth $250.
^ This is prevalent amongst those who ask "what do you value this at?"
Not ALL of the people asking that are that way..but many are.
The other times it's someone who wants to sell but will trade only if strongly in their favor.

I made a sale post for some Guinea pig babies that one of our females had like a week ago.
I made a joke on this very subject…. $20 or trade for M1919 or full autos.
I’ve always found it funny when the sale price is higher than new.
My buddy that owns a gun shop here in town told me: “Even if you bought a gun new and it gets transferred in your name and never shoot it- it’s like a car. Once it rolls off the lot and titled in your name it’s “used” even if you trailer it home.”
Most of the prices on here are tarted anyway so …meh.
