Sale vs Trade Value

It's a very smart tactic actually. If someone really wants what you have but they don't have the cash at the moment but have something to trade you that is worth more (even though they may have less in it), It is a win win situation for both parties.

Hey there guys. I have been on here for years, but have never really heard anyone explain the logic / reasoning on this. I have seen some that were $50 - $100 dollars more (which I thought was reasonable), and some that were several hundreds of dollars more. It has never really made sense to me how I could buy a firearm from someone for $800, but a trade would require $1200 in goods to seal the deal. Could someone give me some insight on why guys think like this?
I know aint that some of the dumbest **** you ever seen? Morons explains it

Lol I thought I was just in the dark about some unspoken thing. And in some post guys aggressively point out that it is an insult to offer them an equal trade deal and that you will be ignored. So I definitely wanted to see if I was on the short bus.

I was legitimately trying to give you an answer to your question. I hope it made sense. Even if the op that post something doesn't put a higher trade value I have offered a trade before that was worth more than their cash price was. Why? Because I didn't have the cash but I had something to trade that I had less money in actually. Bartering 101. And as far as this, "And in some post guys aggressively point out that it is an insult to offer them an equal trade deal and that you will be ignored", In all my time on here I have never seen any one post that it was an insult to offer them an equal trade.

In my experience, when someone offers a trade for a firearm you’re selling, they usually try to price THEIR firearm at retail value while valuing yours at the reduced cash price.

For example, you list a firearm for $1,000 cash but to buy it new with accessories would cost $1,500+. Someone sends you a trade request with their G 43X and says “I got $1100 in it!”

Ooooookay.. and you have $1,500 into your firearm? The math doesn’t math. There are a ton of turds on here looking to rip people off. I almost always list a higher trade value specifically for this reason.

If you want to value your firearm at what it would be cost new, be prepared for me to do the same as the seller.

They're just ridiculous people. There's items I've offered exactly what they listed for a trade and they'll still turn it down. They want the cash and over half the time you can get it new for the same price. They think they have something special, sometimes they do not often, and they don't want to get rid of it.

Just want to try and explain a little more from my thoughts. I will use prices from original post. Say I have a Marlin 336 .35 jm stamped brand new unfired in the box. I post it for $800 or $1200 trade value. Say i am needing the money and want to sell and get the cash. But say Joe Blow has a brand new in the box Ruger boat paddle in rare caliber that he will trade because he doesn't shoot it but is really looking for what I have, and he would rather just trade for mine. Win win! This applys to the OP question, not some of the responses which are different issues that I DO agree on.
