The cobia are coming in like crazy right now in NW FL.
I know, and I'm stuck here with classes and exams, just counting the days till I can go fish the county pier again.

The panhandle is always a good choice, destin, pensacola, and Panama City have good charter fleets. Also if you are willing to travel farther you can try a 36 hour trip down in Tampa that goes out to the middle grounds.

Are there particular websites that you know of that I can use to research cost and dates available... the panhandle is cool... I'm not against the 3 day trip (might be a bit much first time out... who knows)

I don't really go charter fishing much besides a trip on a head boat for snapper in the summer but I do use panhandlepierfishing.com for info, another choice and maybe better because there are more boat fishermen on it is pensacolafishingforum.com.
Here's a recent report on that 36 hour trip I was talking about, http://www.pensacolafishingforum.com/f42/florida-fisherman-ll-goes-deep-149099/#post1160729

Ft Morgan AL.

I know a few of these captains from the dock and they rarely come back without a full fish box.

The Redeye and the Miss Carli are larger offshore cabin cruisers. Capt Walter on the Ni-Cole is a super nice guy and he is mostly near/in shore.

Here is where I stay:

Thanks... I lived in CR for a year and set up some trips for Luna Tours for folks... Got to know them well enough that they would let me cast to sails with spinning tackle... Got that one on 30lb test and it was a lot of fun!

That's a lot of fish on 30lb gear.
