Yeah cause a wounded grizzly is loads of fun. Fire a warning shot. He goes his way; you go yours and neither of you have wounds to lick. Pepper spray works great but on a windy day, you will want to be squirting down wind and in the thick of battle with a grizzly, checking wind direction is a lot to ask of someone. If you actually shoot any bear in self defense after that 1 in a trillion "warning shot didn't work", You best be hitting something vital with a big chunk of lead. One swipe from an adult grizzly paw can take your head clean off.

Black bears will run away, a Grizzly will eat you ass, dump all the rounds you have into his head, leave one for yourself if you fail. I know alot of people say to go with the huge calibers for grizzly protection, but from what I've read you need as many chances as you can to land a head shot but enough force to make it through the skull, so medium recoil high powered rounds are preferred. so instead of the SW500 which will be hard to rapid fire accuractely, use a 357 and dump 7 rounds into its head

Ever see those guys out salmon fishing with big ol grizzlies right next to them? They never show the fishermen hiking their fish back to the truck. Suppose any of them ever make it back to the truck?

warning shot wont work in all situations, especially if you stumble across their young. I won't shoot one just because if I wasn't hunting one, but if one begins to act threatening I'm not waiting to test out the warning shot. And again this is only for grizzlies and not black bears(who are pretty much never threatning).

Hell the black bear on our property walks right by goats and chiockens to eat birdseed out of the feeder.
