SBR Glock

To my understanding it is not always an SBR. The frame will always be registered, but if you have it in pistol format or full length rifle format you can even cross state lines with it. The pistol to rifle but not back again thing is only for unregistered items a SBR has some levity to float back and forth as either, remeber what the gun is is different when in the state's or ATF's eyes.

This is second hand info I got from a silencertalk.com thread, but in one case a man had his SBR AR-15, took it over state lines to a SBR unfriendly state with a 16" barrel. ATF said it was okay, but when officers called the ATF after seeing the engraving they said "that gun is an SBR", Officers decided that that was gorunds to take him in, in the end he was in no trouble and it was just very confusing for the officers to understand and the ATF as usual didn't help by being clear as mud.

NO. You can NEVER Make a Rifle a Pistol. You can make a Rifle into an SBR. You can make a Pistol into a Rifle and back into a Pistol again. If you make a Pistol an SBR, you can make it back into a Pistol, but you have to left ATF know.

That's not exactly true. If you read the ATF regs if you remove the stock from the pistol or remove the short barrel from a rifle and get rid of any parts associated with it that made it as such it is no longer a device that must be registered. It's only an SBR as long as it is in that configuration and has the associated tax stamp.

IIRC, from rifle to pistol = OK, pistol to rifle = SBR. You convert that glock to SBR, and it will always be an SBR.

How do you make an M1 carbine pistol? Another thing is, this may be stupid, but every time you make the glock into an SBR...do you have to pay for the stamp?

Q: If I remove the short barrel from the registered SBR or SBS, is the receiver still subject to NFA transfer and possession regulations?
If the possessor retains control over the barrel or other parts required to assemble the SBR or SBS, the firearm would still be subject to NFA transfer and possession regulations. ATF recommends contacting State law enforcement officials to ensure compliance with state and local law.

Q: Does the installation of a barrel over 16 inches in length (SBR) or 18 inches in length (SBS) remove the firearm from the purview of the NFA? If so, is this considered a permanent change?
Installation of a barrel greater than 16 inches in length (SBR) or 18 inches in length (SBS) will remove the firearm from the purview of the NFA provided the registrant does not maintain control over the parts necessary to reconfigure the firearm as a SBR or SBS.

Q: Is it necessary to send notification to ATF and receive acknowledgement that the SBR or SBS has been removed from the purview of the NFA before it may be sold as a GCA firearm?
There is no requirement for the possessor of a registered NFA firearm to notify ATF that the firearm has been removed from the purview of the NFA. However, ATF recommends the possessor notify the NFA Branch of such changes in writing so that the possessor is not mistakenly identified as the owner if the firearm is later used in a crime. If, at the time of transfer, the firearm does not meet the definition of a SBR, it should be transferred without filing the NFA transfer application and without payment of the transfer tax.

Yes, According to the ATF just to own one of those stocks and a compatible pistol at the same time constitutes building an SBR even if you never assemble the parts.

According to them, before you order the stock you have to file a form 1 for the pistol that you intend to install it in and receive the tax stamp for it.

Would I need "forms" to buy one of those pistol-rifle stocks your pistol just slips into ?
