Scam messages

Tried to trade items( in the past) with a dude and he basically refused all attempts to meet and trade.. wanted me to send him my item 1st by mail and when he received said item he would send me his trade item! Would I be correct in thinking it was a scam?

That or you're dealing with a guy that's dumber than a box of rocks. Or thinks that you are.

Unless it was someone I knew, that would be a red flag for me.

I wouldn’t do it unless it is like DanKATL said , someone you knew.
Face to face is best with strangers I think. I tend to bring someone with me to just sit in the car also if I can. Just in case.
