I have had a 938 for about two years now and I carry it 90% of the time and it is reliable, tough, and shoots very well. When I worked at a gun range I wanted to see how long it would run so anyone that said anything about the 938 I would had it to them and tell them to shoot as much as they wanted and I never cleaned or lubricated it. Finally after almost 1500 rounds it started to have failure to feeds but it was really more just having trouble going back into battery due to all the gunk built up inside of it. I cleaned and lubed it and it is still running like a champ. I shoot with a full grip and my thumbs ride high so I would lock the slide open a time or two when I first got it so I shaved the slide lock down and polished it smooth and I have had no other problems since. I was just going to start a post about being rough on guns cause I drop that one all the time and just down right treat it like crap but it still keeps on trucking!
not at all although I will say my springfield has never given me any problems either. I have put some nasty ammo thru mine and it eats it all. normally small guns are prone to feeding issues or snappy recoil but the little bit of weight there is to this gun reduces the recoil and makes it very manageable and the only feeding problems mine has had is when I put 1500 rounds thru it with no lube or cleaning at allAre these "finicky" like a 1911 given their 1911-like design?
X2 on the cool safety manipulationNo because inside they are not a 1911 design. I have only had 3 failure to feeds on the 238 out of 500 rounds (testing hollow point ammo), and I have had no failures on the 938 yet. The 938 rental I test shot had 2 failure to extracts but I think it was just due to rental gun abuse... nothing a new extractor couldn't fix
In fact now that you mention the 1911 design, one of the nice little features of the gun is you can cock the hammer, set the safety and you can still run the slide with the safety on
