Post office will ship long guns to a FFL for repair or custom work. worst case, they might want to question you about IF the adressee is in fact a FFL. If if is going to the factory, shouldn't be a question, but if it is going to a dealer you might want to take a copy of their FFL with you to the post office. They can email it to you. Wallacem

You are supposed to include a "file copy" of the receiving FFL's license on the box with the firearm. I send a photocopy of my GWL and GA DL, and the buyer's name and phone number (if a sale) so they can log it into their bound book.

I consider their service necessary for shipping a handgun to a buyer. You dont need their service. You just box up your item and ship it at the post office. USPS is cheapest for this.
