But that IS my point. “Un commanded” is still unintentional (albeit more egregious) but if the crime stats don’t break down those 18,000 unintentional discharges into percentage of “uncommanded” then how are we to know if the 100 from the P320 is significant relative to another brand or model? There could be 200, 300, or 400 uncommanded discharges by XYZ brand but they don’t have government contracts, police body cam footage or military armorer affidavits to support it. (And let’s not discount the mob mentality of internet dog piling) I just think it’s weird that we shrug our shoulders at the other 17,900 incidents and say, “I guess we’ll never know ‘bout those over there” but when it involves cops or servicemen and it’s a national crisis. I mean, I’ve seen cops at the range qualifying. Some shouldn’t be allowed to handle squirt guns much less actual firearms. I think it’s fair to say Glock or HK or Ruger or [insert favorite brand here] is a safer choice than the P320 but that’s if you assume those others don’t make up a significant portion of that 17,900. There’s a lot of unaccounted for and unexplained data there.

Yes, uncommanded is unintentional. But unintentional is not automatically uncommanded.
We might not have videos of all incidents. But the videos we do have show the 320 going off without a trigger pull. We don't need video of all instances. Because yes, the majority of the time it's somebody being negligent. It is sad that it's only taken seriously when it's a cop or serviceman, but it is what it is.
They don't train bank tellers on all the different types of counterfeits, they make them familiar with genuine currency. Similar principle. I don't need the info on all "Unintentional" discharges to know most of them aren't due to a faulty firearm. Seeing the clear videos and reports on the 320 are sufficient to know the 320 has a problem.
Sig Sauer says : " A manual safety is designed to augment, not replace, safe firearm handling practices. You are responsible to protect against unintentional trigger movement while carrying any firearm. Even if you elect to purchase a pistol equipped with a manual safety, you must ensure that the trigger is not contacted in any circumstance other than when you intend to fire the pistol, particularly if you elect to carry your pistol with a round in the chamber. If you have a round in the chamber and the trigger is pressed to the rear, the pistol will fire, absent an engaged manual safety. " Per their website. Figure it our for yourself.
Maybe, just maybe, when the 320 was being designed, it was required to have the best trigger pull of any striker fired pistol ? It has a good trigger out of the box, to me. As it was accepted by the powers that be, this design flaw is being realized. Let's hope no else dies from the "uncommanded" firing of one. The whole thing should go on up to DC, where there is always talk but no action. Oh boy..
