Hello All
I have spent the last 2 years searching for a sig p228. I recently scored one and what a score it was a brand new in box, west German p228 made in 1993. The gun is complete with box, target, paperwork etc. The second magazine is still sealed in plastic. The only rounds ever fired were for the factory function test. The safety tag still hangs on the trigger guard.
Now I'm torn. I looked forever to find this gun to use as a carry gun. But with it being new in box I feel like I should leave it in new condition in the box and not carry or shoot it. I also know how fragile the old sig oxide finish is. How it wears if you look at it funny much less holster it.
I have a nice sig 1911 that I currently carry. So I don't have to use the p228. But at the same time. I searched and searched to find one of these to carry and enjoy. The 228 is becoming a rather rare bird and I can see it appreciating in value if left alone. I can also see how cool it would be to hand it down to my son when he is of age. The gift of a brand new 228.
I welcome thoughts and opinions on to carry or not to carry.
I know in the first photo the slide looks a little funny but it's the flash reflection from the the phone camera and the oil residue on the slide from where it was pulled from the oily plastic bag its stored inside the box. The tip of the slide does have the purple staining from the ageing process which apparently is perfectly normal and does not affect value.
