Sig Ultra compact MPX Copperhead

I think I want one.

SIG SAUER Releases the Ultra-Compact MPX Copperhead

Newington, N.H. (January 7, 2018) – SIG SAUER, Inc.is pleased to announce the newest addition to the SIG SAUER MPX series, the ultra-compact MPX Copperhead.
mail
“The MPX Copperhead considerably reduces the length, width, and size of the MPX platform making it the most compact addition to the MPX family of firearms,” said Tom Taylor, Chief Marketing Officer and Executive Vice President, Commercial Sales, SIG SAUER, Inc. “The Copperhead is the perfect combination of the features and performance our consumers expect from a SIG MPX in a compact package.”

The MPX Copperhead features a monolithic Elite Series Cerakote® finish upper receiver, with an integrated stock knuckle lower, and a 3.5” barrel with integrated muzzle brake. The MPX Copperhead comes equipped with the new SIG SAUER Pivoting Contour Brace (PCB) giving pistol users a brace that easily adapts to the movement of the shooters arm with a patented swivel operation for perfect placement, and can be rapidly deployed.

MPX Copperhead:
They forgot the sights and I refuse to use flip ups.

What I can't understand is why almost all the marketing images of the MPX Copperhead only show the left side of the pistol?? Some other things I don't particularly care for:
  • 3.5" barrel
  • One-position wrist brace thingy -- not adjustable whereas the regular MPX has 3-position adjustable brace -- but it also swivels which IMO may lead to instability in your grip/aim?
  • No way to attach a light under barrel, although I suppose you could forego an optic and put one on the top? Original MPX has a keymod handguard.
  • Muzzle brake/flash hider looks fragile, like it could get bent easily if banged against something
  • 20 round magazine -- only 3 more than a much smaller G17 -- whereas the regular MPX has a 25 round mag
Some things I do like on it though are:
  • Fully closed and locked rotating bolt
  • Short stroke gas piston
  • 4.5 pounds
I think I'll pass as well, I'd much rather have the original MPX.

It looks like a solution to a need that nobody has... haha

So you don't get the concealability of a pistol, you don't get the power, range or accuracy of a carbine...

I really don't understand what functional niche this is supposed to fill? $1800 is a lot, for a gun that doesn't seem all that useful or effective...

It's like someone in marketing had a slide in a PowerPoint that showed that "tiny guns are trending this year" so they came up with this stupid thing...

Very true about power, range and accuracy... it's still a standard 9mm cartridge being shot out of a 3.5" barrel, which is shorter than a Glock 19.
