Hello,

I have a buddy looking to get into the gun game. He is currently looking for a single shot shotgun/ rifle for 0-150. What companies make
a economic single shot? Anyone to avoid. The Rossi NEF survivor is around what he is looking for. Can this gun swap barrels/ does anyone have one?

I'm about to go pick one up. Adventure Outdoors has them on sale for 239.00 right now. I don't think Rossi and NEF are the same company though.

Nef will fit any barrel you want to a single shot but you have to send in the receiver.

Hello,

Rossi makes the Rossi single shot which can't switch barrels and the roadie wizard which can.

Nef can have additional barrels fitted at NEF but there are two receivers, the sb1 and sb2, one can take higher powered rounds the other cant.

The NEF Barrels cost about $100 each, plus a fitting charge plus shipping, plus return shipping. Google the 1871 Barrel Accesory Program to see the page with prices and options. READ UP ON THE SB1 VS. SB2 FRAME FIRST BEFORE YOU BUY. It'll dictate your options later.

I picked up one in .357 recently. I think the fit and finish is very good. The chamber appears to be very generous though. If you place a new bullet in a spent case, the bullet will fall right in. I was hoping to not have to bother full length sizing. But, I still have to. I do not know if the bottleneck chambers are the same way or not. I hope not...

Bottom line, you can add a pair of barrels. It'll cost you about $250 to $300 to do so depending on the options you pick.

I have a rossi .308 that I am trying to work up a decent hunting load in. I like them, but be advised, there is typically much more felt recoil in the single shots.

Shooting 3" slugs or buck through a 12 ga will shorten your shooting day significantly. Those big boy calibers are also shoulder punishers.

The .270 barrel I got for a NEF rifle was $142 and some change for everything including shipping. Shooting from a bench with a break barrel isn't much fun tho. You can't leave your scope lined up between shots like with a bolt gun since you have to lift the gun to chamber a round.
