Just fulfilling his responsibilities as a young man to protect the household. Wish he had gotten both of the idiots, but at least he sent one of 'em to the morgue. Good for him and good on the mother for providing the tools to give her child a fighting chance.

Good for the young man...I just hope it the whole experience doesn't scar him for the rest of his life.
Come on, really - a 6X felon, and the other dude had probably 3-4 from what I read. WTF are these people doing on the street?

I realize the kid didn't build a fake suitcase bomb, but I wonder if his civic service will get him an invite to the White House. Any takers?
6x felon for drug charges . . . < if I recall correctly, some on this forum feel that he should have his weapon and voting rights restored as well as being free . . . non-violent felony or something like that . . .

He should have both restored. If you're out of prison, then you're out of prison. People need to take responsibility for their own safety instead of depending on a government safety net. The Second Amendment exists to defend against tyranny, whether it's tyranny from the British, from the American government, radical Muslims, or six time felons that don't know how to act right. If you have a problem with such an individual being released, address the issues within the criminal justice system. Don't chip away at Constitutional Rights because you want to feel safer.
There was a shootout between the two sides. Obviously having the existing law in place did not deter these two fools from bearing arms "illegally". But in many states, this boy's mother could have been charged with allowing her child access to a firearm. Fewer laws are better, even if the outcome isn't always as good as it was in this particular situation.
If Mom will bring him to my house I'll teach the young Jedi in the fine art of Gun fighting so that next time neither of the thugs shall leave the house walking
