Ok, so I have no knowledge on the S&W revolver locks.

1. When did they start putting them in?
2. Do they still put them in?
3. What do they do and what is the purpose?
4. What do they restrict?
5. I've seen on the S&W website that they make the 642 with no "internal lock". Do they make any other models without these locks?

If I'm mistaken on anything, please correct me.
Thanks all!

I’ve had several S&W and Taurus guns with the Clinton Compromise disabling lock.
None have ever engaged themselves.
They work fine with the little key.

But.... twice I used the lock and failed to disengage it. I forgot! So for some hours, even days, I was carrying a really short blunt impact weapon.
