Concur with corn snake. Very good snake there. Don't kill this one.

They do both look very similar.

Any way about it, your friend should leave it alone. They will save them a lot of feed by killing the mice.

Indeed they do! And it is clearly a rat snake of some sort (corn snakes are rat snakes, often referred to as red rat snakes). Either way, completely harmless and highly beneficial.
