Everything I have read says that the king snake and rat snake have the same diets and the same habits. Basically cousins. Biggest difference is coloring and the rat snake usually has kind of a scaly ridge down its back where the King snake is smooth scaled. I said King snake at first but that is definitely a rat snake.Agree it's a black rat snake not a eastern king. Good snake but I'm pretty sure that rat snakes don't usually actually eat poisonous snakes like king snakes do. Just saying.
I agree, they are more or less harmless to humans and sometimes they will devour a copperhead.Agree. It’s a rat snake. Good for keeping small rodents at bay. Live and let live

Definitely looks like a black rat or black racer snake but the smaller one does not look like a cottonmouth at all. Looks like a water snake. Cottonmouths proportions are unmistakable. Very thick bodies relative to their length. Their tails almost look stubby.Blacksnake eating cottonmouth
This guy was about 4 feet long...what is he?
I really need a couple of those. I had a big one living around my shop for years. I haven't seen him in a while, I'm guessing he died. I have alot of pesky little thing for him to eat. If you need to relocate it. I'LL TAKE IT !
