So...how much AMMO is TOO much ammo???

You cant be too good looking , have too much money or too much ammo
I have continuously loved hearing some of the gentlemen on this site who have lived more life than others critique those that have not been alive long enough, had an income level sufficient enough, done everything perfect in their life, or aren't retired with the time to piddle with all the things they now have tons of free time to mess with.
As if we should have a time machine to go back and buy a pallet of ammo when we were 9 years old, bought 50+ acres for $1000 and spend 14 hours a day with our gardens, livestock, or additional income businesses.
Don't get me wrong, it's not like they're wrong in what they're saying, but to act as if there is no excuse for you to have "not been prepared" when you have lived half as long as they have is as condescending and unrealistic as it gets. Knowing good and well most of them would have been in the same boat if the roles were reversed.

Don't barter things that can be returned to you at several thousand feet per second.
In a perfect world I would like 5k rds for each mbr, 2k rds side arm, 1k rounds long range, 10k rds of 22. That would be my stock of useful ammo I would not dip below. It is not training or plinking ammo. I would then assess how many of each rounds per week I would like to shoot to maintain proficiency (yes, marksmanship is a perishable skill), add 10%, purchase that and then get on a regular ammo purchase schedule to maintain that training stock. In minecraft.
THIS! thank you for actually answering my discussion properly. Though I know numbers differ, but I do like the acknowledgement of training and to plan ahead to have enough to do so.
I totally get the "in a perfect world" bit...as for that much ammo, I'd have to bury shipping containers to store that much! Lol

1-- When you run out of storage room in your own house and garage, and you
buy your neighbor's house and remodel it into a three room, 2.5 bath armory and munitions depot.
2-- When you get heavy trucks arriving with pallets of ammo so frequently that you actually build a loading dock with a 50 inch high platform and a propane powered forklift to move your ammo inventory from the 53' trailer into your building.
3-- When the State sends over an officer from the State Defense Force and a lawyer from the attorney generals office asking for you to sign an agreement to make your ammo stash available to state military forces in case of an emergency.
4-- When you try to add up how many rounds of ammunition you have total,
you can't find a calculator with the screen big enough to show the number,
and you have to resort to scientific notation.

Bolt guns-300 ea
Semi rifles-1200 ea
Full size pistols-300 ea
Carry pistols-200 ea
Shotguns-500 ea
I'd like to see what some of you have come up with, and reasons why.
I think your numbers are reasonable except for the semi auto -why do you want so much more ammo for the semi automatic gun (1200 rounds) than any of your other types of guns?
Are you planning on going to war and having multiple gun battles?
Do you think you'll survive the first gun battle?
I don't think you need more than 300 rounds for any of your guns,
and that would anticipate shooting maybe 100 rounds in hostilities, at the most,
and the other 200 rounds would be used to keep your skills proficient,
maybe shooting 50 rounds a year over a four-year period during these dark ages.
Alright fellow ODT junkies. I have a semi serious question.

We had a sister platoon that went through 5,000 rounds in one 4 hour fire fight. So you probably need a lot.
