So, is NIL obsolete now in College Athletics?

I don't care either way as long as the Georgia Bulldogs win.
Go Dawgs!

Im old enough to remember when sports were fun. Travel ball has killed rec ball. NIL will kill College and soon high school. What I see is everything is great until grown ups screw it up with money.

I don't care....college football is changing, and not for the better.....
I do not like what the colleges have done(in the past) to their student athletes....the school makes millions, and the athletes don't get crap, so to that, I like what is happening...then you will have the Heisman star quarter back bitching why he's subsidizing the girls softball team....that's coming...

Agreed. Rec ball isn't even fun anymore. It was tough watching my kids go through it when you got all the travel ball stuff going on, you can't compete unless you want to join them. And the cost of travel ball, time away from home, etc is crazy. I don't know how these parents afford it unless they're taking out second mortgages because there's no way you can work a full time job and be on a travel ball team.

Good players got a full free ride to a major university, a degree if they chose, the best training and equipment, the best medical care and nutritional care money could buy, and a literal worldwide platform to showcase their skills. Name any other career that provides such a paid internship. But apparently that wasn't enough. I tried telling people this is what would come of it and heard the same old tired but the "school makes millions" absurdity. Even without researching how much most schools actually "make".
We've have become a nation of class envy and insatiable entitlement. It's nauseating.

LSU:
"The athletics department’s total revenue was $200,476,979 in 2023."

Yes I understand their spend was almost as much. But that's football propping up a lot of sports no one gives a **** about. Football is a big money sport. I don't understand the resentment so many express over the players getting paid. The money isn't the problem, allowing transfers without any real consequence is. The good programs don't have players transferring out for more money, they have players that weren't going to see the field transferring out. As for the bad schools, they weren't going to compete at the top level anyway.
