So, is NIL obsolete now in College Athletics?

We are headed towards contracts. 2 year minimums. It will be NFL Jr.

The reason southern folks have typically gravitated to college football way more so than pro is because of the excitement of watching young men play for the love of it, and the pride of their schools and states. Those parts are now successfully ruined. I’ve lost interest in less than 5 years, and my lifelong favorite team has won 2 national titles in the past 3 years. What a weird, personal change of events.

I think the reason most southern folks have gravitated towards college ball is that until the 1990s. The states of Tennessee, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas and Florida had exactly 3 NFL teams to choose from. Falcons, Saints and Dolphins. None of which were 30 years old. One which was in Miami so it was so far from most of the rural south as to be a foreign country. So really 2. And they both sucked (that hasn’t changed much)

LSU:
"The athletics department’s total revenue was $200,476,979 in 2023."

Yes I understand their spend was almost as much. But that's football propping up a lot of sports no one gives a **** about. Football is a big money sport. I don't understand the resentment so many express over the players getting paid. The money isn't the problem, allowing transfers without any real consequence is. The good programs don't have players transferring out for more money, they have players that weren't going to see the field transferring out. As for the bad schools, they weren't going to compete at the top level anyway.
Your dumber than I thought.. but that’s just my opinion

MHR, You are spot on. Being from Kentucky, college hoops was my main interest, and to a degree it still is.

But it's the same b.s. in both sports. There is no tradition anymore. It's becoming all about the money now. The joy of watching players play their heart out for nothing more than than their home school are about to go bye-bye.
I may change my mind over time, but I doubt it at my age.

Tis' a brave new world in college athletics. Expect ticket prices to skyrocket.

Only 1% get a full ride (85/team get scholarships), but 1.6% get drafted. So the rest, willingly play, knowing they'll never go pro. Why is that you think?
They have their reasons...doesn't change the fact that the schools make millions off their back, and, until now keep it to enrich themselves...the student athlete can just limp on back home....

Does the fact it's not a fact change the fact?
I realize, you "don't accept that".

Interesting thread and I don't proclaim to have the answers to the current issues. i am still sad Arch will not follow in his granddad's footsteps. No Hotty Toddy......but who knows he could transfer.

That very well could be part of it. We’ve had the Falcons all of my life, and though I always wanted them to win, they were nothing compared to UGA.

I think we are both right.
