Well I just talked top my boss. The move would require at least a one year stay, but it's comes with a healthy pay increase. The nice thing is, if I move out there, get the pay increase, and decide I hate it, I can move back to Atlanta (opportunity permitting) and would keep the same pay grade. So I would be getting Cali pay, living in Atlanta, and my raises would be based on my Cali salary level. Sounds like a potential economic win.

All the money in the world can't buy happiness.

Is the company paying your relocation costs to California?

Will they cover costs for you to search for a home or apartment?

You will need a 20 to 30 percent boost in salary just to survive.

You can get most of the cost increase on your own just using Google.

Don't forget all of the things we take for granted living in GA. It's all of the little fees, taxes and costs you don't pay now that you will pay in California.

From Zillow: The median list price per square foot in Irvine CA is $417, which is higher than the Los Angeles Metro average of $335. The median price of homes currently listed in Irvine is $769,000 while the median price of homes that sold is $732,750

You'll need more salary to move.

Funny the last time I had contact with anyone in Orange County was a journalist doing a story on a serial killer (Randy Kraft) that was found driving his car with a dead Marine in the passenger seat, that turned out to be one of the most prolific serial killers in history, (killed many Marines hitchhiking in the late 70's and early 80's) and is STILL on death row (30 plus years later).

Lived there twice..Laguna is nice to visit on business and the wine country but that's about it.

**** that state......and the horse it rode in on.

California is beautiful. If you could strip away the politics, it would be an awesome place to live. Unfortunately, it's ruled by insane politics.

AK, I think it would be a great adventure for you. Sounds low risk, from all you've written so far. If I was young and unattached, I'd do it. Stash the guns with pop, move, get yourself a CA-approved carry gun and permit, and see what it's like for a year.
