The ease of which to mount an optic traditionally is an important factor as well.

Having said that I love AK's & really, really like AR's.

After hearing glowing reviews about the Sig556R from one of Suarez Int'ls Instructors I tried it, tested it... then made it my primary.
While not perfect it is a good balance of the virtues of both designs in one gun.

Um, Russia hasn't uses the AK47 since what...the mid 1950s when they switched to the AKM, and they dumped that in the 70s for the AK74. Nobody using the 7.62x39 anymore besides American rednecks and impoverished 3rd world jihadist.
