So who all rides motorcycles?????

Some riding buddies and I are getting ready to do the same ride. Don't have firm dates yet.
The iron butt part or the roads I outlined on the trip back? I’ve run all those except the “Snake 421” and I’m looking at doing that around mid September.
I think the Blue Ridge pkwy to the Snake and hit the Cherolaha Skyway and home (Sandy Springs ) would be a great run.

I would NOT head to New Orleans. Can't imagine a more boring stretch than I-65.

Well, if by "boring" you mean a wide straight road with light traffic and a high speed limit --that is the kind of road that would help me maintain the average miles/hour I need to complete the challenge.

Your not going to be able to do it all in daylight. I'd definitely have my dark hours on the front end and try and schedule to be back two hours before dark, because.... stuff happens.

I wish I had enough time to take off from work and train my body to stay up all night, sleep most of the day so I could begin the Saddle Sore 1000 trip at sunset.

Then I should be completing it by late afternoon the next day a couple hours before the next sunset . My "most tired" hours would take place in Bright midday sunlight.

BUT REAL-LIFE INTRUDES ON MY WISHES! I can't arrange a perfect scenario and set up ideal conditions when it comes to sleep patterns.

I won't be able to get on that sleep schedule before I attempt the Saddle Sore ride, so the best I can do is tweak my wake/sleep schedule to get up a few hours earlier than normal -- let's say 4 AM instead of 6:30 AM.

That means at 9 pm, 14.5 clock hours later, I'll be tired from having ridden some 700+ miles, with 300 more to go, and it will be dark.

But on the interstates in Mississippi and Alabama on the return trip, I hope to have enough traffic around me to keep my mind occupied, and the Lights of the other cars and trucks on the road will help illuminate my view too.

Good luck. If you're doing it soon, the bugs will kill you at night. Be safe!
