Social Security Stories?

I’m sure there are horror stories galore…let’s here them, and please try just the facts ma’am…
My SS came through without a flaw, but my wife is being mishandled. She applied in Dec. and then got a phone call asking her to identify herself with basically all the info an identity theft would need, but also all the info SS would need. The wife told the lady she was uncomfortable and wasn’t convinced this wasn’t a scam. Asked for the questions at hand be mailed to her. This apparently pissed off the SS agent, and it’s been a **** show since then. The wife still works, and we understand SS adjusts your monthly amount based on your earnings, but wife got a letter telling her they were holding the first 5 months SS pay to cover her earnings adjustment. An attempt in person this morning by the wife, at the SS office, was met with “ you have to make an appointment now” and gave her a number that becomes eternal hold…I was under the impression they would adjust each check based on your earnings over a certain amount, and you’d just get less per month from SS. This withholding all benefits for 5 months just seems WRONG to us….

Wow ! Sounds like someone there is screwing with her !
I wonder if you can possibly get someone higher up the food chain to look at it without pissing them off ??

I know they will withhold monthly checks until a wage adjustment is met.
It happened to Anne's sister last year...they withheld 3 1/2 months.

The bad thing about it is nobody can tell these SOBs what to do or anything. They seem to be their own “bosses” ….. so to speak. They want to do or not do something, ain’t nobody going to tell them any different.
It is like they are above the law too. Scary bunch of bastards if you ask me !

When my wife was having problems with her disability I contacted the senator on board and he got problem fixed within couple weeks. talk with your Representative or Senator and see if they can help.

Oddly enough, for a govt agency , I had no problems . Done it all online 4 years ago . Filed Nov1 had the funds direct deposited Dec 22 . Was pleasantly surprised. Sounds like you got an unpleasant and vindictive person . Take it up the line to a supervisor!

I could never understand...

SS checks run one month in arrears but they will take back the funds you receive the month you die.

Never had a problem with the SS office here in the Keys, Very helpful, you can go to Key West in the morning, walk in the SS office and get things taken care of in a very short time. Then spend the rest of the day hitting all they local hotspots.
